POSITION:   Circles Director

 

REPORTS TO:  United Way Executive Director/Circles™ Executive Board         

                                   

NATURE OF WORK:           

The Circles™ Director is the key facilitator of a community-based Circles™ initiative eliminating poverty.   The coordinator’s primary role is to engage the community to convene, facilitate and fund a Guiding Coalition that will take responsibility for maintaining and growing the Circles™ initiative and all of its components.

 

SPECIFIC POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a unique skill set combining human services and community capacity building with emphasis on not accepting the status quo.  A combination of training, education, and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position. Masters Degree preferred but will accept a Bachelor's Degree and at least 2 years of relevant experience.  This full-time position includes coordinating community resources, fund raising and requires some evening work. DUTIES:

  1. Write and speak passionately on reducing poverty
  2. Network with appropriate community sectors and groups for the purpose of recruiting volunteers and build community support for the program and its clients
  3. Actively help families and youth identify their strengths and to develop relationships across socio-economic lines
  4. Recruit and provide orientation and ongoing education of Circles™ Executive Board
  5. Work with Guiding Coalition to secure funding through grants, donations and major gifts
  6. Work with Guiding Coalition in Circles™ Initiative design, implementation, and evaluation
  7. Collaborate with the Guiding Coalition regarding Circles™ budget in coordination with the lead agency
  8. Ongoing communication to members of the Guiding Coalition and agency staff in regards to Circles™ and Circles USA
  9. Plan, schedule, and facilitate weekly Circles™ Community meetings with clients and volunteers
  10. Make arrangements for childcare, meals, meeting room and transportation for weekly community leadership meetings 
  11. Responsible to hire and supervise childcare workers and other staff as needed for weekly meetings
  12. Screen potential Circles™ participants and volunteers
  13. Serve as liaison between Circles™ participants and volunteers as well as other Circles staff
  14. Schedule, organize and present orientation sessions to new volunteers
  15. Maintain knowledge of services currently available throughout the community especially human service agencies
  16. Other duties specified by Guiding Coalition or lead agency
